Experimenting with Google AppEngine

I finally got my invite to AppEngine (Google’s new webhosting service)… I get to make 3 apps during the BETA period. My first app is at http://blingsearch.appspot.com

It basically puts your myspace theme colors, fonts, and backgrounds onto google search. Here is some random persons theme for an example…… http://blingsearch.appspot.com/heatheralexus

The development process on AppEngine was overrall really great

 Things I LOVE about Appengine:

  1. Django support ( was up and running in 10 mins )
  2. Ease of Deployment ( 1 command syncs up production and my pc instantly
  3. Dashboard ( built in stats and monitoring )

Things I do not LOVE about Appengine:

  1. No session support in django ( it needs a db backend )
  2. No admin pages in django ( ditto )
  3. Dashboard is not as great as goog analytics
  4. Getting a domain name seems confusing
